Pie & Beer Day—celebrated on July 24, with a cult-like following—is a play on words of Pioneer Day, the Utah holiday commemorating the entry of Brigham Young and his Mormon pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley.
Revelers of Pie & Beer Day eschew sitting through the Days of ’47 Parade, performances by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, or whatever. Instead, they grab frosty cold brews and delicious slices o' pie. It’s kind of a culinary holiday; and kind of a drinking holiday. Sure, Pie & Beer Day is partly anti-establishment in nature, but it’s all just in good fun.
For those of you with a curiosity for the exuberant culinary possibilities that the day can hold, 13% SALT has crafted two pairings.
The second photo takes a departure from the sweet side of the slice and opts for a pizza pie. A phenomenal wood-fired Margherita pizza from From Scratch is paired with an Epic Mid-Mountain Mild Ale. Start with this one, then work your way back. Yum.
