Sam Wimpfheimer is president of the Utah County Beekeepers Association, and he began keeping bees six years ago because the fruit trees in his yard weren’t being pollinated. Wimpfheimer thinks that life would be pretty bland without the buzzing of these friendly pollinators.
Bees are responsible for 60 to 80% of the fruit that we have nowadays, and they play a vital role in maintaining a healthy food ecosystem. The overall population of wild bees—and there are a wide variety of them in Utah—has significantly diminished in recent years. The Utah County Beekeepers Association offers classes and eduction on beekeeping and all things bee. It makes sense, because, after all, Utah is the Beehive State.
