"This city and her people deserve an honest advocate," says Cody Derrick, founder of cityhomeCOLLECTIVE, a real estate agency, a creative, cultural think tank and a blog. More than a decade and a half into his dream job at cityhomeCOLLECTIVE, Derrick merges his love of design, real estate, Salt Lake City and its people. And the idea of a collective spirit plays out in this image.
I asked Derrick to wax poetically about my idea that the candles would represent the collective spirit in his work and in Our Town. He replied in a manor that is a clear indicator of his fervor for the city:
"One candle can illuminate a face or an object, but it takes a lot more than that to light up entire rooms. And the City of Salt has a mint of individuals on fire right now. Watching SLC’s creativity burn right now is orgasmic."
Derrick continued to chat with 13% SALT about how he felt like he had to hide his love of design when he was young, about why the CHC blog was launched, about the importance of design in one's life, and how he's looking for a baby daddy. Read the full interview with Cody here.
